Living it out: SCM's Annual Conference 2010

19 - 21 February 2010, The Hayes, Swanwick

This year's conference was the biggest in 20 years and it was exciting to see SCMers coming from all over the UK and beyond to think and act on living out faith.

The speakers and workshops
Michael Taylor and Tamsin Omond sparked much discussion over the weekend. Michael shared with us some challenging and inspiring thoughts on vocation and mission, encouraging us to 'cross borders' and build a 'community of difference'. Tamsin brought us her energy and passion for climate action and shared her story of becoming an activist.

Workshops helped us unpack the theme in more detail and touched on liberation theology, new monasticism, art and creativity, the nonviolent Jesus, and finding our purpose.

Small groups and worship
We met together in small groups throughout the weekend for discussion, reflection and bible study. Sheffield SCM and Leeds Cafe Church led us in morning and night prayer, and in our closing worship we celebrated the Universal Day of Prayer for Students.

SCM Friends programme
For the first time we had a parallel programme for SCM Friends, who joined in with some sessions and had their own small groups and workshops. Read Liam's report of the Friends programme here, and Betty's reflections here.
