How do you mark Advent?

I've been trying to find a bit more peace and stillness - but it's not so easy when everything is geared up to make us think "must buy presents, must send cards, must wrap presents, must buy train tickets to visit family, must find box of christmas decorations, must make house look festive, etc, etc".
