COP 26: Action & Events Round-Up

March

The Global Day of Action is a series of grassroots-organised events taking place on Saturday 6 November 2021. Campaigners and climate activists will be demanding that governments and corporations limit global temperatures to 1.5°C, and deliver real and just solutions to the climate crisis. CAFOD and Tearfund will be marching in Glasgow, London, Cardiff and Belfast, and COP26 Coalition have local groups across the UK who are organising actions in their local area. You can find your local hub and what they're planning on COP26 Coalition's website. Christian Aid have put together a resource for those who want to get involved in a march which you can check out here.

If you can’t or don't feel safe attending the COP26 Global Day of Action in person, then why not join take part in the World Climate March instead? You can participate by making a 30 second video of you marching, take a photo with a placard, or use a video/photo of yourself at a climate march you've joined previously explaining why you are marching for climate justice. Don’t forget to add the #worldclimatemarch hashtag!

  • People’s Summit for Climate Justice. From the 7-10th November 2021, as world leaders meet to discuss our future, the COP26 Coalition will host The People’s Summit for Climate Justice. There will be both online and in-person sessions.

"The decisions made at COP26 will shape how governments respond (or not) to the climate crisis. But justice won’t be handed to us by world leaders or delivered by corporations. Only we can imagine and build the future that works for all of us. The solutions that we need already exist and are being practiced, but governments lack the political will to act. Indigenous and frontline communities have known the solutions for centuries.

On 7-10th November, we’re organising the People’s Summit as an alternative to business as usual of false solutions and inaction at the COP negotiations. The People’s Summit is a global convergence space for movements, campaigns and civil society – from indigenous struggles to trade unions, from racial justice groups to youth strikers. Join us in imaging our future, combining our knowledge and building the movement for climate justice from the ground up.

We’ll discuss the injustices we are currently facing, imagine the future we want to build, and strategise how we can get there." Find the programme here.
