SCM is pleased to announce the addition of an SCM Connect Project Worker to the staff team, thanks to generous support from the Methodist Church. The post was created to develop SCM's work with churches and young people, and will help SCM to reach more students to support them through their transition from further education to university.
"We're really excited to be expanding our work with 16-18 year olds through the development of this project," said Simon Densham, SCM's National Coordinator. "At a time when the nature of student work is changing so quickly, our work with this age group is vital for the growth of the movement. Through the SCM Connect project we will be able to reach more young people to help them find vibrant and inclusive Christian communities at university."
The new SCM Connect Project Worker will lead on SCM's outreach to 16-18 year olds at festivals and events, and through developing links with schools and colleges. They will also work to promote the SCM Connect platform, enabling more students to link with churches and student groups at university. The Project Worker will also run workshops and lead Bible Studies with young people to help them to explore and deepen their faith, and prepare them for the challenges that going to university can bring. Alongside SCM's Group Worker and Regional Development Worker they will also continue to build links with churches and support them in establishing and growing their student ministry with resources and training.
We would like to welcome Rob Chivers to SCM as the new SCM Connect Project Worker, who joined the staff team at the end of October. Rob comes to SCM having recently completed a degree in Youth and Community Work and Practical Theology at the Institute for Children, Youth and Mission in Oxford. "Rob's passion for young people and his desire to see the movement grow is exciting, and I have every confidence that he will continue to build up young people through his role at SCM." said Simon. "We very much look forward to seeing how SCM will develop through this project."
