I thought it might be good to have a space to share things that have worked well in your SCM/student groups - cool games, bible studies, excellent speakers etc
So my favourite ice breaker at the moment is the paper game. Everyone needs a sheet of paper that you put on your heads. Then ask people to draw a self portrait on their paper, while its still on their head. Then ask everyone to take the paper off their head, but not show anyone. You can get peopel to write anything on the sheets by way of introduction to the session. Then screw the paper into a ball, have a paper fight, pick up a piece of paper and try and return the picture to the owner. Afterwards you can go round and people can say what they wrote to introduce the workshop.

That sounds like terrific fun.
I came across one similar to that recently (it involved pieces of paper, does that make it similar?). Everyone gets a numbered piece of paper (e.g. if there are 20 people in the group, the paper is numbered 1-20).
Everyone writes on their piece of paper how they're feeling, what's on their mind, what they're excited about or what's bothering them.
Then all the pieces of paper are collected in, and passed round the room.
You get to read everyone else's, and you have to guess which number goes with which person.
Then you have a marking session, where each person confesses which one was theirs.
Yes - the paper on the head one works really well! Provokes lots of laughter and can be adapted. When we played it at the European Regional Assembly of SCMs we simply asked people to write three words on their piece of paper that described them, as it was the first icebreaker we did. But you can also get people to write things related to the session you are doing:
e.g. for a planning meeting for your SCM group:
What do you value most about this group?
What three topics would you like this group to explore next term?
or for a thematic workshop on mission:
What three words do you associate with the word mission?
