SCM Taize trip 1 - 10 August 2009

SCM will be taking a trip to Taizé during the summer. All are welcome to join us (as long as you are 18+). Come and meet other students and recent graduates travelling from the UK, and from SCMs in Western Europe.

Thousands of adults from around the world join the meetings in Taizé each year. A stay at the ecumenical Taizé community is an opportunity to seek communion with God through prayer, singing, silence, discussion and simple living.

SCM @ Greenbelt 28 - 31 August

Greenbelt is the annual Christian Arts festival at Cheltenham Racecourse - jam-packed with music, arts, drama, comedy, theology, campaigning and organic beer.

There are always lots of SCMers old and new at the festival, and students coming from chaplaincies and groups around the country - so this year we'll be aiming for an SCM community within the campsite again - come and join us! You'll find good food, great company and beautiful bunting.

We'll also be running a stall in the resources tent, so do come along and say hello.

If you can spare a few hours to help out on the stall then please get in touch with Rosie links@movement.org.uk

Support SCM's Jubilee Appeal!

Since 1889 the Student Christian Movement has been bringing students together to explore how to live out a radical faith in today’s world. You can help us celebrate this anniversary and develop our witness in universities and colleges over the next 120 years by supporting our Jubilee Appeal.

New newsletter launched...

The summer term sees the first issue of our brand new newsletter for friends and members, Grassroots.  You can see a pdf version here.  If you would like printed copies for your group, chaplaincy or church, contact the SCM office.

Liberating Gender: SCM's theme for 2008-09

So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
There is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28

Does gender matter? How do we perceive and construct our identities? Is gender binary? Can men be feminists? What relationships are there between gender, power and injustice? Whatever happened to a positive masculinity? Where are women's voices in the Bible? Does it matter that Jesus was male?

During 2008-09 join SCM as we explore the complex world of gender and justice, thinking through some the questions above and much more.  For lots of ideas and resources, explore our year theme pages
