Exciting volunteer opportunities with SCM!
SCM is looking for enthusiastic student volunteers who are passionate about helping students to explore the Christian faith in an inclusive community. Student Reps will be the face of SCM at universities where we don’t yet have SCM groups; acting as a point of contact for students and promoting national and regional SCM events.

Receptionist, Diocese of Manchester
The diocese wishes to recruit a Receptionist to provide an excellent reception service for visitors and callers to Church House. The postholder will also be involved in a range of administrative tasks.
Previous administrative or reception experience is desirable but not essential. You must have sympathy with the values and aims of the Church of England.

Regional Activism Co-ordinators, STAR network
Do you want to inform and change attitudes about asylum seekers and refugees, and campaign for positive change to the asylum system?

A New Regional Asylum Project is recruiting three Regional Activism Co-ordinators to be based in Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds/Sheffield.
The Project
The New Regional Asylum Project is an exciting new project which will use regional organising to achieve a louder, better coordinated voice for asylum seekers. It has a dual focus – to inform and change attitudes about asylum seekers and refugees, and to campaign for positive change to the asylum system. It will operate in partnership with Still Human Still Here and will seek to support existing campaigns.
STAR will be acting in the role of National Co-ordinator.
The project aims to enhance grass roots and national campaigns, increase the involvement of those with direct experience of asylum, and build a movement in support of change. Funding is confirmed for 12 months, and the project is anticipated to continue for at least a further two years.

Hours: 3 days per week (each post)
Salary: £25,000 per annum pro rata

Lingua Franca Co-ordinator, World Student Christian Federation
The World Student Christian Federation—Europe seeks a suitable candidate for the volunteer position of Coordinator of the Lingua Franca Programme. The primary responsibility of the coordinator will be to oversee the development, execution and follow‐up of an ecumenical residential summer camp for between 20‐40 students (mainly from Central and Eastern Europe). The Lingua Franca Programme is focused on providing a space where: Students with fewer resources and opportunities can take part; Simple, clear English language is used; A focus is placed on providing practical ecumenical leadership training.

Grassroots Network Developer, Stop Climate Chaos
WSCF Europe Regional Secretary: The position of Regional Secretary for the Europe region of WSCF will be vacant as of June 1st 2012. The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) therefore seeks applications for this challenging task based at the European Regional Office in Berlin, Germany. It is a full time, paid position.
Key duties and responsibilities: Responsibility for fund-raising, finances and administration; Networking with churches and ecumenical organisations; Supervising and support staff and co-operating with student volunteers; Preparing thematic conferences and training courses; Communication and publication tasks.
Applicants should be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time traveling within Europe and beyond, and should be able to plan their workload accordingly. Previous work experience in (inter)national ecumenical or church-related organisations would be appreciated. Salary information to be updated soon. More details and application form available here.

Grassroots Network Developer, Stop Climate Chaos
The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition (SCC) is recruiting for an experienced Network Developer (part time) to build local activist networks in key constituencies.
Since Autumn 2010, SCC and its member organisations have been encouraging supporters to connect with each other locally and lobby MPs as part of ‘climate connections'. Following on from this work, SCC has developed a strategy to build up targeted grassroots pressure in key MP constituencies on an ongoing basis. We are seeking a part time Grassroots Network Developer to help develop and deliver this strategy.
Salary: £25,000 p.a. (pro rata), for the right applicant we will consider up to £28,000 p.a.

CAFOD 'Step into the gap' gap year programme
A year out experience with CAFOD and the Society for the Holy Child Jesus in partnership with St Mary’s College, YMT (Youth Ministry Team) and Just Youth that takes you places the guidebooks don’t.
Take an adventure that will change you and those around you - your journey begins and ends in the UK, but takes you to one of the poorest countries in the world to meet amazing people and share their lives. You will then use those experiences when you return to lead young people to a better understanding of how their faith helps them take action for change.
Step into the Gap offers a rounded experience, giving you the chance to volunteer overseas and in the UK, allowing you to explore and express your faith. It bridges the "gap" between adventure and new experiences while offering something to a wider community.
The closing date for applications is 30 April 2012. Interviews will take place April and May, and for successful applicants there will be a preparation weekend in July (dates TBC). Placements on the programme begin at the start of the academic term September 2012, and so applicants should be aware of these deadlines and crucial dates. International Reconciliation Internships, Coventry Cathedral
Reconciliation internships at Coventry Cathedral are for those seeking to develop their understanding of reconciliation and peacebuilding as part of Christian mission. It offers the opportunity to:
- Gain experience in a working environment;
- Develop skills in project management, research and group facilitation;
- Learn and explore a range of issues in relation to the theology, practice and spirituality of reconciliation.
All interns will contribute to the successful delivery and development of the Reconciliation Ministry at Coventry Cathedral. Each intern’s role will be focussed on a specific area of the team’s work, while also necessitating the flexibility to assist with and collaborate on other tasks as required. Interns will take part in a guiding reading programme as well as participating in the daily liturgical life of the Cathedral and attending Sunday worship.
To be eligible for an internship, prospective interns should:
- Normally be over 21 years of age at the time the internship commences.
- Preferably be a graduate, with a degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. International Relations, Politics, Public Policy, Peace Studies, Development Studies, Theology)
- Be a practicing Christian.
Where English is not their first language, applicants for an internship will need to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in spoken and written English.
Internships will commence in August 2012, and generally last for a period of twelve months. The Cathedral will provide free on site accommodation, a weekly allowance and expenses.
