The SCM Guide to Make Do and Mend

Looking after the clothes we have is the most sustainable change we can make to our wardrobes. If clothes last longer, we will buy less, and therefore use fewer natural resources in production, fewer carbon emissions in manufacturing, and send fewer garments to landfill when our wardrobes get too full. Did you know that the UK throws away £140 million worth of clothing each year? We can reduce that figure by keeping our clothes for longer, and this handy guide will help you to keep them looking pristine.

This resource was produced for SCM's Love the Earth event in 2020 by Elinor Bracken, SCM member and textile historian. You can read it online, or download the PDF and print it out as a trifold brochure to keep with your sewing kit.
