Seeds of Liberation
Join hundreds of students at our annual conference Seeds of Liberation 1-4th March 2013 at St. Peters House Church and Chaplaincy in Manchester. In 1973, SCM hosted a major conference in Huddersfield entitled 'Seeds of Liberation'. This was a turning point in the lives of many of the 350 participants, leading them to follow Christ's call to work for justice and liberation, in many different ways.
2013 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Seeds of Liberation conference, and SCM feel that the time is now right to look again at the challenges of poverty and injustice, and to inspire a new generation of students to follow Christ’s call to work for justice and liberation.
Through a varied programme of talks, workshops, panel discussion and times of worship, the conference will raise awareness of injustice around the world, encourage students to reflect both theologically and in prayer, and empower them to be a prophetic voice for change. The conference will also provide an opportunity for students around the world to come together to share their stories, to build links to learn from and support one another and to explore what mission means today and how we can build the Kingdom of God.
Our speakers will be Revd Raj Bharath Patta and Bruce Kent and we have a massive selection of workshop leaders (including Christian Aid, CAFOD, Progressio, Pax Christi, Church Action on Poverty) and a Panel Discussion on the Beatitudes!
You'll also find at our conference a whole host of creative and varied worship and prayer sessions, chances to connect with students internationally, a student led open mic night, an amazing interactive play on the Israel/Palestine Conflict, some pretty delicious food and a student led Day of Action on the Monday focusing on the issue of Tax Justice.
The participation fee for the weekend is £55, which includes three nights accommodation. Single Day tickets for the Saturday and Sunday are also available.
