Students inspired to be Christ's Hands and Feet

Students from all over the country gathered at Hinde Street Church for SCM's 'No Hands But Ours' event in central London from 28-30 October for campaigns workshops and time for retreat and worship.

Workshops included those focussed on the local area and the UK, including a discussion about housing justice. The occupation at St Paul's was also very much in our minds, and a group visited the protesters to show SCM's solidarity with the movement.

Students also got involved with CAFOD's Don't Drop the Ball campaign as we discussed popular perceptions of Climate Change, the reality, and what SCM members can do to help.

One of the most counter-cultural aspects of the weekend, however, was a retreat on the streets. The Church Urban Fund released us out onto the busy London streets, encouraging us to wander, take in the sights and sounds, engage with people, experience God in the busyness around Oxford Street, and observe the huge differences in wealth in a small area.

Each day was punctuated by a range of different styles of worship. The church congregation made us feel especially welcome as we lead the intercessionary prayers during their morning service. Sharing fellowship over simple food, singing, playing games, and sitting in the pub was also a highlight of the weekend.

SCM next national event is our amazing Annaul Conference in York - hope to see you there!
