For the Trans* Day of Remembrance (TDoR) 2025 we are inviting members of our community to take part in a creative project honouring the lives of trans* folk who have been killed in the past year because of transphobic violence. Together, we will create a collective candle tribute, remembering their lives through art, poetry, and music.
How to get involved
1. Decorate a candle template
Download the candle template at the bottom of this page. Decorate one or more candle templates however you feel inspired. Express your thoughts, feelings, or solidarity through colour, pattern, imagery, or words.
TIP: You can print out and decorate the candle by hand using pens, pencils, paints, or other art materials, OR decorate digitally using drawing apps, Canva, or messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Snapchat or Instagram.
2. Submit your candle
Once you’re happy with your design, send it back to us.
Digital submissions: If you decorated your candle digitally, save it as a high-quality image or PDF and send it to catherine@movement.org.uk.
Physical submissions: If you decorated your candle by hand on paper please scan or photograph your candle clearly. Make sure the image is well-lit, focused, and captures the entire candle. Send the scanned image or photograph digitally to catherine@movement.org.uk.
3. Final tribute video
All submitted candles will be combined into a single virtual candlelit vigil video. Please feel free to submit multiple candles so we can make as big a vigil as possible!
The video will feature selected poetry, spoken word and song/hymn lyrics to create a meaningful reflection. If you would like to be involved in reading part of the reflection for the video, please get in touch at catherine@movement.org.uk.
