As news of the vaccine circulates and a hopeful end to the COVID-19 pandemic is in sight we wanted to give you a quick update on SCM’s ongoing response.
SCM Online, which we started back in March as a response to the pandemic, continues to go from strength to strength. We now meet every Monday and Thursday evening for Bible studies, games and theology talks on everything from LGBT+ affirmation in the church, Black liberation theology, to the problem of evil. If you’re a student and you’d like to join us you can do so on our Facebook group.
For the safety of our students and staff, all of SCM’s events that would normally have taken place in person have been moved online or postponed. This includes our annual National Gathering, which has been moved from 5th - 7th March 2021 to 9th - 11th July 2021 in the hopes that we can meet in person safely by then. We will review the events situation in the Spring next year, and make decisions for our Summer and Autumn events at that time.
Our staff continue to work from home where appropriate. In the case that someone needs to be in the office in Birmingham, all necessary precautions are taken to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We also wanted to let you know that we will be utilising the furlough scheme again for the staff team from 14th December until 11th January. Fundraising in these times is proving very hard, and this is a way we can contribute to sustaining SCM financially without having too much impact on our core activity.
Finally, our priority continues to be the safety, comfort and creativity of our Members, Friends and staff team. When we look back on these times there will be much to lament, but we are so conscious of the blessings of this community and so grateful for everyone who makes SCM what it is.
Stay safe and well,
Revd Naomi Nixon, CEO.
