Home: Belonging - LGBTQIA+ Day Conference

Registration is closed for this event
An online event exclusively for SCM members who are part of the LGBTQIA+ Community.

SCM is dedicated to creating an inclusive, vibrant, and progressive Christian space, and our annual HOME event has very much become a part of that. For 2020, join with other students and recent graduates to explore the theme of 'belonging.'

Headline Speaker: Lu Skerratt

Lu Skerratt is an Anglican involved in lay ministry at St Mark's Church in Sheffield. They are currently studying for a Doctorate in Theology and Ministry at Durham focusing on queer priestly presence and the Eucharist. They are also a trustee of One Body One Faith and a Gendered Intelligence GIANT. Lu identifes as non-binary as it's the best way they've found to descibe their queerness and sense of faith that transcends and moves beyond the confines of gender.

Lu’s talk will explore what it might mean to queer the Eucharist at our kitchen tables. During the last few months, the way we have 'done' Church has drastically changed and important and timely questions are being asked about what it means to hold and create sacred space outside of a church building. Suddenly we have been confronted with structured ritual and presence in our own homes, and if we have been participating in services they have tended to take a different form - in the domestic and in the everyday. Lu will delve into how this has impacted our theology of the Eucharist and how this also intersects with contemporary queer theology.

Workshop: Queer People of Faith

The Queer community has a rich history of activists, some of whom are people of faith. In this workshop we will look at at some queer people of faith and learn about the amazing work they've done and how see how their work can inspire us as queer people in 2020. Led by SCM members Sian Tredwell, Sam Daly, and Jack Woodruff.

Chaplain: Anthea Colledge

Anthea is a chaplain at Leeds University, and will be availiable during the event and afterwards for any members who want to talk.
