Affirming Christianity Writing Residential

The Affirming Christianity series explores the life of faith in Christ, written by and for people who have shared progressive values and who wantt to grow from those foundations.

From the starting point of shared values of affirmation of LGBTQ+ people, anti-racism, feminism and other issues of social justice, as well as an openness to questions, these courses offer an exploration of topics to develop our shared faith.

The next course in the series has the working title: Affirming Christian Basics. SCM have partnered with Westminster College, Cambridge on a Writing Residential to help develop and shape this next installment. We will test out ideas as well as write and film content.

With Affiming Christian Basics, we're seeking to focus on what is core to progressive Christians, rather than a progressive take on existing Christian basics. Participants at this residential will have the opportunity to test out ideas, write and film materials, and respond to eachother in a welcoming and collaborative environment.

The event itself is free, but participants will need to cover their own travel to and from the residential. Food and accommodation are provided.

Provisional programme:

Day 1

12:30 Lunch (or whenever possible)

13:30 Opening prayer Getting to know each other and intro to the project

14:00 test out some activities from what we already have written

15:30 tea

16:00 Big picture, course title, are we on the right track contents wise, what is missing?

16:30 work in threes to create some content, eg one group work on opening and closing prayer activities, one on bible studies, one on discussion activites, or groups take a session each.

17:30 prayer and break before dinner

Dinner at a time to suit venue

19:00 whole group plan possible video content

20:30 Finish for the evening – social time

Day 2

Breakfast at time to suit venue

9:00 Morning prayer followed by testing out some material

10:00 filming

11:00 coffee

11:30 putting it all together. Final reflections.
