Greyfriars Kirk
Greyfriars Kirk is a congregation of the Church of Scotland in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. It is built on the site of an ancient Franciscan Friary, and the present church has stood since 1620. The Kirk has played an important role in Scotland's history, and has been the inspiration behind world-famous stories like Greyfriars Bobby, and, more recently, Harry Potter!Worship takes place during the week as well as on Sundays, in both English and Gaelic. Our main service is in the high presbyterian tradition, but we also offer fresh expressions of church through our Refugio reflective communions, and our arts-based Nitekirk evenings. The Kirk is a major venue for the arts, a tourist destination, and - through the Grassmarket Community Project - supports some of our most vulnerable citizens. We have a longstanding connection with the University of Edinburgh, and host a number of University events throughout the year. The Minister is Revd. Richard Frazer, and the Associate Minister is Revd. Rev Ruth Halley; Gillian Couper is the Parish Associate. The ministry team would be delighted to welcome you to the Kirk, or to answer any questions you might have!
