Opportunities with SCM
There are lots of ways that you can support the movement through volunteering. Read on for more information!
SCM Contact Scheme - Would you like to meet more Christian students in your area? Host Christian speaker events on great topics? We’re looking for SCM members in as many cities as possible to become SCM Contacts. You’ll be welcoming new students into the area and helping to grow the national SCM community. In return, we can provide lots of support and training. Interested? Drop the office a line by emailing us.
Join the Movement magazine editorial group – Do you have an interest in journalism, or an idea for the next theme of Movement magazine? Are you a keen writer, or just curious about what goes in to publishing a magazine? We’re looking for a team of students to help plan content, commission articles and conduct interviews for future issues. To find out more email the Editor.
Help us plan an event – Want to have your voice heard in how we run our future events, and get some practical experience in how to plan, prepare, run and evaluate the variety of events SCM runs throughout the year? Maybe you'd like to host an event for students in your area, or would like to get involved in planning our national gathering? Join our events team! We’re looking for students to help plan the programmes for our events, act as hosts and to lead worship at gatherings. Contact Rach to sign up!
Spread the word about SCM - Fancy spending some of your time at festivals and events talking to people about how great SCM is? We're looking for volunteers to help spread the SCM joy at festivals and conferences across the year. If you're interested, get in touch with Rob for more information.
Help out in the SCM office - Are you looking to give something back to your community, or to develop new skills? We're always looking for volunteers to help out in the SCM office, particularly to help out with administrative tasks and keeping the website up to date. If you have some spare time and would like to help out behind the scenes, please contact Callum - full training and support will be provided, and all expenses will be covered.
Opportunities with other organisations
Communications and Social Media Volunteer - Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR)
ECCR's vision is to see more and more Christians using their voices and their finances over which they have stewardship, to promote human rights, economic justice & environmental sustainability. We aim to help Christians have a better understanding of finance and corporate responsibility, and how they can contribute to positive change. Our Ethical Money Churches (EMC) programme (currently working with churches in the West Midlands, but with an ambition to expand nationally) helps churches and their members consider the use of their money as an outworking of their faith – how we buy and what we invest in all have a profound impact on corporate behaviour and the world we live in.
We’re in an exciting phase of growth as we look to roll out the EMC programme nationally, but we need your help! We’re looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help us with our social media, monthly newsletter and website. If you have experience using WordPress, MailChimp and social media and are interested in helping us develop our branding, online presence and spreading the word about the work we’re doing as an organisation, please do get in touch! We expect the work involved to be a couple of hours a week, and you will report directly to our Executive Director. We look forward to hearing from you – please e-mail for more information.
Creating Space for God - St Peter Mancroft, Norwich
We are looking to recruit three young people, inspired by our vision, and eager to create space for God in their lives and in the life of our community and city. You are invited to give a year to helping us shape our engagement with the city through involvement in our regular round of worship, and through creative engagement with the wider life of the church. We are open to the role being shaped by the interests of those we recruit, but there is scope for working with music, bellringing, story and the arts, for example as one of our Choral Scholars or Organ Scholars. We are keen for you to help us expand the offer of the church building as a creative space for use by the community, for concerts and art installations. We would also be interested in exploring environmental issues with you, perhaps through the eco-congregation movement, developing a repair café, and raising awareness through partnership with campaigning organisations. We also work closely with the Mancroft Ringing Discovery Centre and are keen to develop links with the uniformed groups which meet in the Chantry Hall.
If you know of jobs or volunteering opportunities that might be of interest to Christian students please send them to us!
